HELP US SEE YOUR VISION

This class offers a variety of courses in art appreciation and are taught by professional artist who provide individual instruction in small group settings. You will learn about Ceramics, Sculpture, Still life, Painting, Watercolor Painting and much more. Members will explore the elements and principles of art with an emphasis on drawing and painting. The study of art history, cultures, and artists will provide vocabulary skills and a foundation for students to discuss and evaluate their own work in a supportive atmosphere. This course may also include: printmaking, calligraphy, and commercial art.

Creative Writing

Are you a writer?

Do you like to write? Do you come up with your own lyrics and write your own poetry would you like to have your poems turned into songs and put your lyrics to music? Have you written things for fun or self-expression? Have you written stories or novels and wanted to submit them to publishers? If so, this class is for you. Join this class and learn more about creative writing and express yourself.

Dance

Joining our Dance sector will be perfect for you!

Dance is an art form which focuses on movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music, used as a form of expression. Dancers, choreographers, and all those involved in studying and performing dance take part in defining and reinterpreting the art form. SCH CAPA Dance division provides development and expansion for all youth. They will learn dance skills and techniques in class and in performance, study the historical and cultural significance of dance and its evolution as an art form, and evaluate personal work and the work of others.

Dance SCH CAPA members will:

• Gain significant knowledge of dance elements, principles, and concepts.

• Develop and apply an understanding of basic principles of choreography.

• Apply knowledge, skills, and techniques of dance, in formal dance presentations.

• Effectively communicate ideas, thoughts, and feelings through dance.

Learn Modern & Jazz! Here you can learn all the necessary techniques to be a great performer.

Take part in a grande dance performance held at the end of each semester!!!

This class is for you!

 

Follow your acting dreams and learn from dedicated and talented acting coaches and directors. Aspiring actors aged 12 to 18 can come to explore acting in all its forms. We offer great acting opportunities for both beginners and advanced actors. This class will encourage young actors to reach their full artistic potential by exploring the truth in themselves and expressing that truth in their work.

Actors and Actresses will work together to showcase their talents for the community at the end of each semester.

Fashion & Styling

Do you always know what’s in and whats the new trend? Is Fashion your Passion?

If so, this class may be just for you. If you have a strong visual sense and an aptitude for working with color and proportion, consider becoming a fashion stylist. Learn how to design the styles you have in mind.

This class will help prepare you for college Fashion and Styling classes. Throughout the semester members will prepare to put on a fashion show to showcase their pieces and styles.

Musical Theater

“Been Bit By The Acting, Singing, AND the Dance Bug?”

Join us after school and shine on stage performing scenes and songs from the most beloved musicals & movies of our time!  This class has something for everyone, first timers and advancing performers alike.  Discover the joys of acting, improv, voice and speech, theater games, choreography and dance!  Develop self confidence and team spirit.

What is Musical Theater

Musical Theatre is a branch of Performing Arts which focuses almost exclusively on live performers creating a self contained drama. The MT division provides development, and expansion on drama (acting techniques, improvisation, body movement, stage movement, and speech), solo and/or ensemble singing (harmony & music theory) and dance combined to perform with confidence musicals.  Musical Theatre is a branch of Performing Arts which focuses almost exclusively on live performers creating a self contained drama. The MT division provides development, and expansion on drama (acting techniques, improvisation, body movement, stage movement, and speech), solo and/or ensemble singing (harmony & music theory) and dance combined to perform with confidence musicals.  Members will be provided costumes and scripts for performances.

• Develop concepts about themselves, human relationships, and the environment by participating in role-playing.
• Understand dramatic literature, sharpen critical thinking skills by exploring the motivations of characters’ actions, analyzing emotional responses to situations, and interpreting playwrights’ intents.
• Students explore and communicate how a dramatic presentation relates to a particular time, place, and culture.

During the last week of class parents friends and the community are invited to your performances.  The performance is our culmination, but it’s the process the students go through and the skills they take away with them that are the most important elements. 

Photography

Learn the art of making pictures come to life!

Give life to your artistic vision through digital photography! Learn fundamentals such as composition, light & shadow, exposure, depth of field and apply these concepts to different genres of shooting including landscape, still life, portrait and candid shots.

Members will utilize the full school space taking interior and exterior shots and occasionally travel around the city Philadelphia to expand their artistic eyes. Each week students will select photos from their collected work to print. Members will use their selected photos for their portfolios. Students must provide their own Digital Camera.

Film & Videography

Have you ever wondered how to make videos, trailers for movies or commercials. This course will offer opportunities to edit scenes, music videos and commercials. Digital video editing programs teach students how to use various post-production software programs, including Final Cut Pro, Avid, After Effects, Photoshop and Digital Studio Pro.

DO YOU HAVE AN EAR FOR SOUND AND MUSIC?

This class is a unique, flexible, and completely personalized combination of training in music production and audio engineering.

Modern digital technologies have made it possible to create and record sound anywhere, but using the right tools is just the beginning.

Our program is about more than teaching the right buttons to push; it’s about developing your ears and working with others.

Vocal Music

“Do you love to sing??”

Perfect!! This fun and exciting vocal training class will start you on your way to becoming the next American Idol. Students will focus on vocal warm-ups, proper breathing technique, pitch, control sight reading and phrasing for singers. Emphasis will be placed on fun, showmanship, and contemporary music that everyone can enjoy while working on singing techniques to last a lifetime. Want to be on Broadway? Want to be an Artist? You’ll learn how to use these techniques to achieve your ultimate goal as an Artist or broadway star here!

What is Vocal Music?

Vocal music is a genre of music performed by one or more singers, with or without instrumental accompaniment, in which singing (i.e. vocal performance) provides the main focus of the piece. This division entails learning Vocal Scales, breathing techniques, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, correct diction, phrasing and visualization and basic sight reading. These are all methods that teach the singer about the mechanism of singing. VM members will perform as a choir in their grand concert consisting of the following genres jazz, gospel, classical, rhythm and blues, and or broadway.

VM SCH CAPA members will:

• Develop knowledge of quality compositions, composers, and performers.

• Experience the enjoyment and sense of accomplishment in performing music

• Value the skill of reading music (sight reading)

• Understand the various roles of music in society.

• Develop various performance techniques

• Identify a personal aesthetic response to music

 

This class is tailored for the beginner to intermediate student and will culminate in a class recital each term.
